About Laura

Ciao, my name is Laura Regaldo.

I was born in Torino, Italy.

Moved to Johannesburg South Africa as a child.

Matriculated at St Theresa's Convent in Johannesburg.

I was a qualified cartographer/survey/geological draughtsperson for many years working for surveyors and mining companies.

Moved to the UK in 2003, started teaching Italian from 2009.

Came back to South Africa in October 2012 and now teaching Italian in Fish Hoek, Cape Town, South Africa from 2013.

I just love teaching my beautiful language!

What some current and former students say:

"I started conversation lessons at Laura's Italian Tuition because I wanted to brush up on my Italian before heading to Italy on holiday. The lessons were so enjoyable that I returned for ongoing weekly lessons after my trip. Laura's love for Italy and for the Italian language are infectious. I've radically improved my vocabulary and Laura is always kind with her corrections. I particularly enjoy the social element of the monthly "Parliamo Italiano" group lessons and have loved meeting other Italy/Italian fans in Cape Town."

I have been learning Italian with Laura for the past 5 months. She is an amazing teacher! Patient, fun and never tires of explaining anything you are hesitant about. I have learned so much, not only the language, but also the customs and "ways" of the country. I look forward to my lessons every week.

Laura's lessons are informal, fun & easy to manage. I love the social mornings that she organizes with fellow Italian language lovers. I would definitely recommend her class.

During 2014 I went to Italy with my daughter without understanding a word of Italian other than Ciao. We found it very difficult to get around without being able to communicate. Getting directions from the station to the bus station and to identify the correct bus was a challenge. Asking directions to our accommodation was also frustrating and we were always pleased when we could find someone who understood English.

After this experience and my growing love for Italy especially the Isle of Capri I vowed I would learn the language before my next trip. My search got me to find Laura Liebermann an Italian teacher in Fish Hoek. So January 2016 I started my once a week lessons.

To support the lessons one has to purchase a book and an CD and the lesson are based on this structure. Now, you're thinking if you have the book and the CD why would need lessons? Well the lesson promote you to be committed. The one- on-one allows one to ask questions and to listen to the pronunciation of words and have one’s own pronunciation and grammar corrected. What is nice about the book, it gives you language that one can use when travelling. You are able to ask for things, greet, understand directions, do shopping etc. Laura even has a group event where you go shopping in a popup shop she creates or you visit a local Italian restaurant and get to practice your Italian. These are always a lot of fun.

Laura is very accommodating and one feels safe to ask questions that one feels are mundane especially related to grammar issues. For me the continual listening to the CD reinforces what I have learnt. Last year I got to go to Italy again and for the first time got to practice the Italian that I had mastered. I was able to get directions to the station when we got lost, order gelato and food at the restaurant. This trip got us staying at the Agriturismo places where no one actually speaks English, so for the first time I was very grateful that I had learnt enough to communicate successfully with no stress.

Thank you Laura I am really enjoying the lessons and your patience with my progress.

When I  began lessons with Laura in November 2019 with a view to learning some basic Italian with a view to my  next trip to Italy, I didn't realise to what an extent she would encourage and teach me step by step from pronunciation to quite complex verbs and grammar.  Admittedly I am "pazza per l'Italia" but thanks to Laura I now  enjoy reading, writing and even speaking un pò d' italiano (that's the hard part!).
